Before we officially decide to work together, I like to schedule a brief phone call. It's helpful to spend 10-15 minutes getting a sense of each other and hashing out logistics. This is also a good time for you to ask me any questions you have. And if I don't think I can help you, I'll let you know.
If we decide to schedule a first appointment, I'll give you all the information you need to enter my physical office and my Zoom waiting room. I'll also email you some forms to fill out before our first appointment.
I like to spend the first session or two taking the lead: I'll ask you questions about your life in the present and about your history. Together we will determine goals for treatment and where to begin.
After the first sessions, I'll rely on you to decide what we talk about.
What I do varies depending on what you need. Expect me to actively listen to you. Sometimes I may encourage you to reflect on something you said. Other times, I'll ask you to tune in to sensations in your body. We might practice mindfulness techniques. I may invite discussion about our relationship dynamic. I may help you problem-solve or give you information about a psychological concept.
No matter what, I come to each session with warmth, respect, and a gentle sense of playfulness.
